Keith Weber, a close friend of Ken’s, with whom I had made a short ride to Pennsylvania before our wedding last year, again invited me to join him and his biker club, The Elks, on an out-ride.
I urged Patricia to join us, and she agreed to use the ride as a “test” to see if she wanted to make a longer ride to Ithaca, in New York state, the next day.
We joined 18 other riders and made our way through the New Jersey countryside on an uneventful but enjoyable ride, stopping at a roadside diner for breakfast, before crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania.
We rode through the town of New Hope where we had stopped on our previous ride, and then cruised along the Delaware River for about 20 miles before crossing back into New Jersey and making our way back to Freehold.
Keith then invited a number of the riders back to his home for a BBQ and we spent the remainder of the afternoon there, floating in his swimming pool and enjoying the company of fellow bikers…
By the following morning, we had finalised a route to the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York, where we planned to spend a few days with Patricia’s sister Sally and her husband Richard, at their home on Lake Cayuga.
Although Patricia was nervous about her first real trip with the Gypsy Biker, she was game to make the ride, provided that I agree that she could take the bus back if the weather turned nasty, or the Big Fella became too excitable to handle !!
