The Agra Fort…

After my early morning visit to the Taj Mahal, I wolfed down a breakfast of properly fried eggs and then went looking for the Tuk-Tuk driver I had booked to take me to Agra Fort…

I will “flesh out” my visit in the days to come, but for the time being, here are a few photos of this massive complex from where the Raj ruled this northern part of India…

Crossing the moat to enter the Red Fort... Huge blocks of Red Sandstone were used to build it... Same stuff that Sultan Qaboos's mosque in Oman was built from...

The layout of the Agra Fort... The sprawling complex was built on the bluff above the Yamuna River that runs through Agra...

Once past the main gate, I realised that I was not the first visitor today...

The towering Inner Gate...

The massive red sandstone walls loom above you as you make your way into the inner complex...

Through this series of archways and into the gardens beyond...

I loved the "sweet behavior" bit...!!

The inner courtyard on the edge of the battlements...

Smoke and mist hang over the city and the fort, obscuring the Taj Mahal in the far distance...

Marble shrine and lookout point over the Yamuna River...

The inner gardens and courtyard of the palace...

The Hall of Public Audience, where the Raj conveyed his wishes to his subjects...

Proof positive... GB was here...!!
