Koh Lanta Yai…

While Trevor, Chenty and Philip went over to Phi-Phi to do some diving, I opted to ride on to Koh Lanta island instead… I was pretty sure that the hype surrounding Phi-Phi was not all that well placed, and as it turned out, I was correct in this assumption…

Many people I spoke to later, could not wait to get off the island, and had regretted ever going there… Seems that since the Tsunami in 2004, Phi-Phi is no longer the paradise it once was…!!

I am having a great time here on “Lanta”, and am putting up a few pics to keep you up to date with my movements…

I have completed the postings up to and leaving Bangkok, and will fill in more of the gaps in due course…

Koh Lanta is a great place to kick back in, and I could quite easily spend a few weeks here…

Ist ferry crossing to Koh Lanta Noi...

Map of the southern island of Koh Lanta Yai, with it's many hotels and resorts clearly listed...

After crossing over onto Koh Lanta Noi, I headed for Kao Lanta Yai, the holiday island...

But first, another short ferry crossing...

I settled on the White Rock Resort, then sent the co-ordinates to Trevor, who was on Phi-Phi Island, a few kilometres away...

On a short ride to the south of the island, I met up with these two South African ladies...

Lunch on the patio... Both Phi-Phi islands can be seen in the background across the bay...

Dyslexia Rules, KO..!!

More later…!!

    Life is tuff in paradise!

If you get to the East coast of Malaysia, swing past PCB (http://www.virtualmalaysia.com/destination/pantai%20cahaya%20bulan%20-pcb%20(moonlight%20beach).html) We stayed here a few nights, while backpacking RTW, before heading to Perhentian Islands. Very chilled, but no roads on the islands.

Also recomend Taman Nagara rain forest. http://www.tamannegara-nusaholiday.com.my/

Will see if I can forward details of our friends in KL. Sure they’ll be keen to show you round the city (and maybe have you round for a braai!).

Are you going to include NZ in your trip? With a bit of planning you’ll be there in time for RWC 2011!

  • Hiya Tony…!! Looked at the links…might cut across to check it out…!! Was planning on doing Langkawi first, then cutting across to the eastern coast…. Thanks for the advice… Will happily join fellow South Africans for a braai anywhere, anytime…!! Cheers, and keep well…!! R.
